Where to find seaglass

Greek Seaglass Finds
Okay, I've already wrote about how to find seaglass, so now here's where to look!  In my travels, I have often searched beaches to no avail -- particularly some in Florida along both the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts and some places in Hawaii, believe it or not!  However, here I will list some great places.

First of all, the beaches that are known among seaglass collectors -- such as Glass Beach in Fort Bragg, California  (Check out Glass Beach: a seaglass lover's Paradise  by Lisa D. Walker, and look for the Lucky Sea Glass pendant pictured in the book!)  and also Glass Beach in Kauai (the locals are pretty secretive about this).

In Europe, I found a lot of great quality seaglass among the Greek Islands, like Patmos, Mykonos, Amorgos, and Santorini.  You have to be persistent and willing to walk along the beaches near the ports.

Also, near Gibraltar in Spain, I found seaglass at a nearby beach.  I loved finding seaglass near Salvador Dali's casa in Port Llegat, Spain but don't let the fishermen intimidate.

In Russia, I found some seaglass as we disembarked from the hydrofoil from St. Petersburg to visit Catherine's Palace.  And, in Romania, a walk along the Black Sea resulted in a few precious finds.

Whew!  Is that enough for today.,  I will continue soon.  Meanwhile check out my website page which lists a page of where to find seaglass.   http://www.luckyseaglass.com

Trip Planning

Our last trip was Mexico -- in February -- so it's time to start thinking about a trip!  We have lots of frequent flyer miles to use, so we are thinking either Australia or China, or some place far away.  Been to both places before, and loved them.  Do any of you have suggestions?  Of course, I will want to look for sea glass, river glass, whatever.  Hope to hear from some of you -- it is weird writing in a vacuum.

Busy Organizing

This guy is sold, "living" in Chicago!
Yes, I have been busy organizing my inventory of Lucky Sea Glass Jewelry for a couple of upcoming events.  I don't do craft shows, etc. but I do like to have my designs displayed in galleries or shops.  So, that is what I am up to.  If you are interested, check my website.  I can hardly wait to get back to jewelry making, though!  I am having fun with copper and crystals, making butterfly and spider pins! They are attractive and are great conversation pieces, of course, with sea glass, too.  My next project is to take some pictures of them....

Lucky Sea Glass and Golf

This warm weather in the East is fantastic for February.  I actually played golf today for the first time in months -- didn't even need a jacket.  I wore my Lucky Sea Glass golf pendant  (emerald sea glass from Hawaii and sterling silver golf charm), and guess what -- I made a birdie on the last hole.  Can I claim that the necklace brought me good luck?  Check out my website for golf and tennis designs with seaglass.   http://www.luckyseaglass.com/golfandtennisnecklaces.html

How to search for seaglass

If you look on my website, I have a page where I discuss this topic.  But, I thought I'd add a few suggestions here.

Seaglassin' or beachcombing for seaglass is a fun and challenging activity for anyone.  As a novice, you might miss some pieces, but you probably should start by looking for the greens and browns, since they are more obvious and numerous than some of the rarer colors.  White may be hard to spot, unless the sun is shining and there is a sparkle.  Many times, you might pick up a pretty rock, hold it up to the light, and see that it is a rock, not seaglass.  This may happen often!

I have found that seaglass often accumulates around debris on beaches, where rocks or wood has been washed ashore.  If you patiently look through the debris, pehaps raking the sand with your hands a bit, you may be rewarded.  Recently, on Maui I found a number of pretty pieces just that way.  Of course, if you encounter someone who is taking over an area (like I saw on Maui), probably you should steer clear.  Sea glass collectors can be secretive and possessive about "their" beaches.  Usually, though, there is plenty of beach and sea glass for everyone.

Greek Islands sea glass finds
Some of the rarest finds (Spain, Antarctica, Arctic Norway) I have collected were just by good luck and being observant and persistent.  I have climbed down to beach areas, scoured a port area near Salvador Dali's home, and wandered along ice in Antarctica, to find seaglass.

Some Lucky Sea Glass Designs From Antarctica

lovely emerald with Swavroski and sterling silver

large light green with turquoise and sterling silver on silver plated chain

this bracelet is sold, a large dark green with Swarovski "snowflakes"
I thought today I'd add some of the designs I created with sea glass that I found in Antarctica.  There are not too many, since there really wasn't too much seaglass there!  Most of it I found, sea lions watching me, along the shore at Grivetkin, where there is an abandoned, disappearing old whaling station from the 1800's.  Who knows where the glass originated?

Argentina and Brazil views

Well, I managed to get the blog back where it belongs. Not that you aren't welcome to visit my website at www.luckyseaglass.com

I'd like to share some of my photos from Argentina and Brazil. Iguassu Falls. You can't find seaglass there, but the roaring Falls, and magnificent views are well worth the trip.

Sorry if I lost you!

I've been fooling around with this blog, and may have caused it to redirect to my website.  If I can't correct, I will start anew!

Seaglass Finds Around the World

While I am home and can blog, I thought I'd write about some of the interesting, exotic places I have found seaglass.  Of course, Antarctica and the Arctic Norway top the list, but I have also found seaglass or riverglass or beachglass in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina (the tip of South America), Russia, and Romania (the Black Sea).  So I will add some pictures soon of these fabulous places.  These two pictures are from the Arctic Norway -- remember there are no polar bears in Antarctica, only penguins, seals, and sea lions.  See the sun and the moon in the picture above!

Pictures from Hawaii

We had a great time on Maui, and when I wasn't searching for sea glass on the beaches, I was taking pictures.  Didn't see any sea turtles this time, but people saw whales off shore.  Hana was rainy, but we managed to get in some pool and beach time -- sun breaks.  Here's the pictures -- and I did find seaglass that I made into jewelry poolside!  How cool is that.

Mexican Revenge

I'm still recovering from Mexican revenge -- even though I didn't drink the water or have any salad for a week!  So, instead of creating new designs, I am simply working on my website and discovering all sorts of marketplaces on line.  Check out this one -- http://www.artfulexplorer.com/ if you are interested in art (or even in Lucky Sea Glass).  Of course, you can always look at my new, revamped website  http://www.luckyseaglass.com/  and let me know if you have any suggestions.  Thanks.

Old post on this newer blog! Easter Island

Easter Island, Chile, Argentina, and Iguassu Falls

My trip to South America was amazing. We visited the Moai (large stone heads carved hundreds of years ago by natives) on Easter Island and the windy slopes of Patagonia in Chile. Then we were off to the Lake District called Little Switzerland near Bariloche, Argentina. Up to Iguassu Falls and then back to Buenos Aires. We even took a day trip to Colonia, Uruguay cruising across La Plata river from Buenos Aires. I will add some pictures soon, but am just starting this blog, so give me time. Sea glass travels, yes. I found some sea glass on Easter Island! It is a volcanic island, so the glass is pulverized before hitting shore, but I did find some pieces near a large collection of Moai. Then, down near Bariloche, I found some river glass, and at Colonia, Uruguay there were shards of pottery and river glass on the shore of the river. I can hardly wait to create some beautiful new jewelry with my finds! Check out my website www.luckyseaglass.com

Mexico -- Riviera Maya

I didn't know how to post this on my last post, so here it is.  I just got back from Mexico, and had very little sea glass to show for it.  The sand there is so white, at least along the Riviera Maya south of Cancun.  Unfortunately, I also am suffering with "Montezuma"s revenge".  Yet, the trip was fun, and we visited Tulum, where there are amazing ruins of Mayan temples and views.  The snorkeling was great, too.

Two trips! Hawaii and Mexico

Hawaii in December was amazing.  We spent half our time in Hana on Maui, at the fabulous resort there.  I had some of my sea glass jewelry with me, and the spa director actually bought a pair of earrings.  I am hoping they will carry my Lucky Sea Glass jewelry in their stores -- she was very interested.  But, I know things don't always work out.

After Hana, we went off to Kaanapali to the Hyatt.  We had great weather, and because of the tsunami in Japan, there were rocks on the beach, and ....SEAGLASS.  I made several designs there, as I sat by the pool.  I sold a few, but I will show them.
