Shop Experience

Went to a shop today that usually doesn't take finished jewelry from artists.  It is a bead shop.  After studying the pieces I brought in, the three shopkeepers wound up taking a number of pieces!  They even said they really didn't have space for pieces, etc., but they went ahead and took them, saying they thought they were artistic, unusual, and well designed.  They particularly liked the crocheted earrings and the aluminum designs I have posted here before.  Now Lucky Sea Glass is sold in six shops and online.

Portugal is next! Help!

I am busy trying to plan a trip to Portugal.  It has many beautiful beaches as well as historic towns and wonderful wines.  Of course, Lisbon is on the agenda, but I am looking into the towns near Lisbon, too, and the Douro River cruise up north.  Anybody out there have some suggestions as to what to see and do?  I will be giving you lots of information about Portugal after our trip (which will be later this year).  Thanks for your help.

Aluminum Designs Are Light and Fun

White and Amber Sea Glass (reversible) from Greece on aluminum choker

Aluminum earrings with amber sea glass from Lake Erie
Aluminum earrings, sterling silver wire wrapped sea glass from Hawaii

Last week, I saw someone wearing dramatic earrings made of silver aluminum, so I decided to buy some aluminum wire and play with it.  I created these earrings and a choker with it --- and sold them right away!  They are light, pretty, and are perfect with sea glass dangles.  I will be creating some more and putting them in my new online store soon.

A Sea Glass Gift

It is not unusual for my customers to tell me that they gave their sea glass purchase to a friend, a sister, or someone special rather than keeping it for themselves.  You see, when you wear a sea glass design, you receive many compliments.  It is hard not to give the piece away to someone you care about.

Yesterday, a friend told me that she had given her necklace away to someone who now wears it all the time.   This conversation made me think that as Easter, Passover, Mother's Day, and graduations are coming up this Spring, why not consider a Lucky Sea Glass design for a gift?  Currently, I am offering my Facebook fans a discount on their purchases.  If you would like a custom piece, just email me with your ideas.  I will get back to you quickly.  I have sea glass from all over the world, if there is a special place you would like to remember!

New Designs With Lake Erie Sea Glass

Green, White and Amber Sea Glass with silver plated star and  natural turquoise on an adjustable bracelet

White sea glass earrings with sterling silver wire wrap and hooks
I just created these earrings and bracelet with sea glass (beach glass) from Lake Erie.  I found these on a trip to Ohio, and we went to a number of beaches along the lake.  The best was a private beach someone took us to, outside of Cleveland.  By the way, these are for sale.

California Zoo Safari

It was fun to take a Zoo Safari out near San Diego recently.  I took lots of pictures of the animals, and thought I'd share some here.  It is mostly an Asian safari, but we did see some African animals, too!

Octopus sea glass necklace

I recently completed this new design.  It is in the shape of an octopus, with cornflower blue head and sterling silver tentacles.  I added a mother of pearl bead, Swarovski crystals, and a glass pearl.  I know this is different -- but a sea creature goes well with sea glass, I think.  Do you like it? It is on a black cord with clasp (not shown).

Wash Your Sea Glass!

When you are lucky enough to find a lot of sea glass, you need to sort through it and clean it.  I keep my sea glass sorted by place I found it, size and color.  That's why I have so many  containers.  Of course, you can just mix it all together in a jar!  But as a jewelry designer, I need to see size, color, and shape.

One way to clean it is to wash it by hand.  Make sure the sink drain is closed so no little pieces get lost.  Some people add a little white wine vinegar to the water.  I dry the seaglass with a towel and put it on a white towel or paper so the color is more obvious.  Sometimes I discover colors  I didn't know I had!

I hope this helps!

More Places to LOOK For Sea Glass

Here are some more places to find sea glass.  A customer who bought a custom piece of Lucky Sea Glass had found sea glass on the Riviera  France.  Either Cannes or Nice.
The design is on my Custom page on my website.

Another beach I heard about is Davenport in California. I haven't been there so please let me know if you find sea glass there!

Some more Good Luck

So lucky!  Got one  of the last flights out of snowy Chicago.  Now in sunny California.  No sea glass,  but I did see fused glass, blown glass and Murano glass in a gallery in the mountains.  It made me realize once more how rare and special genuine sea glass is.  You can't make it  -  the oceans create it!

Chicago. - Picasso and Tiffany Stained Glass

Chicago is cold this time of year and gray and dreary, but guess what - we saw some amazingly beautiful, colorful Tiffany stained glass lamps and fixtures here yesterday at the Driehaus Museum.  It really is a renovated 1880's mansion.  Tiffany  created floral, peacock, and other designs with shades of stained glass..It makes me wonder what more can be done with sea glass!

Also here is an interesting Picasso exhibit at the Art Institute although it is mostly  drawings and etchings in black and white.  Picasso developed so many different styles that he is so fascinating to study. An artist can try extremely diverse techniques and succeed in different ways.  Some pieces are classic, cubist, surreal, mythological, etc. Each style represents a developing vision.  I think Picasso's art is amazing.
