My Latest Sea Glass Mobile update

After I created the fish mobile, I discovered that it is fun to make something with the sea glass I have collected that is not really jewelry quality, but still is lovely.  So, now I have just made a Christmas tree ornament or mobile to hang in a window with sea glass I found in Greece, a shell from Florida, and various other beads, a silver star and a Lucky Sea Glass tag.  Hope you like it!  THIS SOLD AT THE TRUNK SHOW!

Jewelry Trunk Show Update Again

Trunk show was rejally fun and a great success.  Lots of sales and happy customers.  Makes me happy, too!

I've been busy sending out invitations and organizing my jewelry for an upcoming annual Trunk Show for Lucky Sea Glass Jewelry.  It is always fun and I love helping people decide which piece they must have.  Also, preparing for the show gives me a good reason to reassess my designs, polish up the silver, change some things, improve displays, etc.  If any of you are in the metro Washington, D.C. area, and would like to come to the party, let me know and I can give you details.  It will be on Nov. 24  a Sunday when there is no Redskins game!

The evites have gone out -- and the collection is ready.  Just have to make up the price list -- everything will be on sale just for the show so I will recalculate prices.  Today I bought a bottle of Sea Glass wine -- the label is what attracted me -- perfect for the show.

Inspiration from spirals

I came across information about spirals on the internet.  The spiral is an ancient symbol that was even used in cave paintings.  I have often used variations of spirals in my designs, not realizing that they can represent growth and change.  Perhaps, the spiral can be a symbol for someone who is taking that first small step toward greatness.  Spirals begin with tiny circles and can expand forever!  Here's one of my  spiral designs --  with glass I found in Mongolia.

How About a Turkey Menorah?

This year, Hanukah and Thanksgiving will be celebrated together.  It's very early to think about Holiday gifts -- but before you know it, the holidays will be upon us.  I think a turkey menorah would  be a perfect gift == but I haven't seen any yet!  I do have some sea glass necklaces with Judaica symbols like Star of David, Torah, candelabra, etc.  that would be nice holiday presents.  Most of them are on the website.

Tiffany Glass in Chicago and Painting with glass

I've been visiting. the grand daughters in Chicago and got to see an exhibit of lamps and glass paintings by Lewis Comfort Tiffany at a museum in a Victorian home.   Tiffany developed different types of glass for what he called painting with glass.  Truly beautiful, but not sea glass of course!  Hmm. maybe I will try painting with sea glass!

What is Art Jewelry?

Lately, I've been reading and thinking about what is artistic jewelry as opposed to the jewelry that is mass produced, machine made in some factory.  Handmade jewelry artists have written that the difference is the passion and the technical skill of the individual artist, and I agree.  The passion to create something unique and beautiful for a special buyer is one of my main motivators.

But, even more than that might  be the desire to improve my skills, become better with each new design so the design is simple and unique  and well made all at the same time.

The downside of all this, of course, is that often handmade, artistic jewelry costs more than the mass produced kind (although not always).  Sometimes, the popular brand names are pricey for the materials they use and the brand name is what raises the price.  Individual jewelry artists must finance all the equipment,  materials, shipping, etc. so their costs for each item may be higher than for huge numbers of items made in some factory in Asia.

I hope when you considering buying a piece of Lucky Sea Glass Jewelry you will see that it is a special, one of a kind item that is handmade with care and with artistic intent.  Thank you, and I would like to hear your comments!
